Whether it’s a fitted cap, beanie, fedora or six panel cap, hats are the perfect accessory and extension of anyone’s wardrobe.

If you’re looking for a new hat to add to your wardrobe, I’ve got you covered here with this quick guide. If you’re heavy into streetwear, consider a fitted cap. If you’re more of a classic guy, look into a fedora — wide brim or standard. For everyday use, you can never go wrong with a solid beanie or a six panel cap. Whatever your style, scroll down to check out some of my favorite hats, brands and options.

Fitted Caps

Ahhh, the classic fitted cap. No hat collection is complete without one, no matter who you are or your style. It’s almost law to at least have a navy blue Yankees fitted in the collection. If you’re looking to elevate your choices though, look no further than three of my favorite shops cranking out patched-up styles in endless flavors. Jae Tips hails from the Bronx and his hats are the definition of flash and flair. Combining patches and embroidery, you’re bound to stand out with one of his caps. Joe Freshgoods is known for taking simple items like hats and turning them into his canvas for any and all storytelling opportunities. His latest Midwest Tour collection is definitely my favorite. Last but not least, the legendary Hat Club. If there’s any color combination you can think of, they’ve got you covered. Take a look for yourself.

Beanies

Truly the definition of a wardrobe staple! Whether you prefer a chunkier style or a beanie that’s more streamlined, here are a few versions I recommend from two of my favorite brands. We have to start with one of the most authentic brands in the streetwear world — Bricks & Wood. Bricks & Wood makes quality products across the board, but their beanies are what first caught my attention. They’re chunky, comfortable and really stand out well in any outfit. The Natural colorway is definitely my favorite. For an opposite style, check out the J. Crew cashmere beanies. They’re thinner, more streamlined and cashmere. I like to dress these up a little bit more and rock the Bricks & Wood with my everyday fits.

Six Panel Caps

The six panel is my favorite style of hat — point blank. They sit perfectly low on my head, come in all different material options and are perfect for everyday wear. To start, let’s check out the A.P.C. Charlie Cap. Anything corduroy is an automatic win for me and I’m a huge fan of this one. Rich, brown fabric with a curved brim.. chef’s kiss. For another cotton cap that’s a little more simple, check out the Norse Projects Twill Sports Cap. For a little more street style, one of my favorite caps is the Stüssy Sport Logo Cap. It’s unstructured with a beautiful embroidered logo — perfect with a tee and some kicks. Last but not least, if you’re looking for something a little more lightweight, go with nylon and check out the Norse Projects Econyl Sports Cap. Recycled nylon with subtle embroidery on the front and back — all a minimalist’s dream.

Formal + Occasion Based Hats

Although my wardrobe is mostly casual, I can’t stress the importance of versatility enough. Specifically with hats, upgrading your everyday hat to a wide-brimmed fedora or straw hat can really help you shine — whether it’s date night, drinks with the fellas or a day at the beach. For a solid straw hat, I’m recommending none other than Tenth Street Hats. They’ve been in the game over 100 years and it shows in their quality. The Concho is one of my personal favorites. If you need a quality, heavy duty fedora, spend some time with Goorin Bros. Making hats is what they do and they do it well. My personal favorite? The Gerald Fitzgerald.
