What I Wear: Back to the Office

Top to bottom, exactly what I wear back to the office — brands, specific pieces & styling all together.

I recently started a new job, y’all. One that requires me to be back in the office, which isn’t a problem! But.. I had to start thinking about what to wear on the daily again. For the last two years, I’ve been working from my couch in whatever I felt like wearing that day — whether it was a really nice fit full of new pieces or my half ripped basketball shorts from 2008 and a plain tee. I kinda need to be a little more intentional now heading back into the workplace. I’m three weeks down at the new job and thought I’d capture the type of items I wear to the office — stylish of course, but comfortable and “work appropriate” (whatever that means).

When it comes to tees, I have zero problems wearing something or with a logo on it. I’m not showing up with the Supreme “Fuck You, Pay Me” tee on the office floor tho. Use caution, lol. One of my go-tos so far has been the Stüssy Basic Tee. It’s comfortable, the sizing is great and I can leave the office and do whatever right after in the same fit. The same can be said for these other examples like the R_Studio.01 tee from Humane Resources, the It’s All Love Tee from Circulate, and the Pleasures Dub Pigment Dye Tee.

Now, if you’re more of a plain tee person, don’t worry — so am I. I’ve got you covered there as well! A solid fitting plain tee will keep you on point, whether you’re in finance, a tech bro the head boss or anything in-between. If you saw my recent Instagram video, you know that out of UNIQLO's whole selection, their Dry Crew Neck Shirt is probably my favorite on an everyday basis. They carry the perfect amount of stretch, come in mad colors, feel super soft and look crisp. If you want something a little thicker, check out their U Crew Neck Tee. I could go fancier, but I stay away from that with my plain tees. I don’t feel bad banging around boxes and computers in my $10 tees in the office on the days I know I’ll be a little more active. Quick and easy to replace in case they can’t be cleaned or etc!

I have my days where I wanna ditch my tees, but don’t necessarily want to go full blown business casual. That’s where camp collar shirts and polos come into play! If you follow me on Instagram, you know I talk about camp collars at least once a week. For those not familiar, think about your standard short sleeved button up shirt, but spread the collar and remove the top buttons. Still crisp, but a lot more casual. So many brands make them, but some of my personal favorites are the Engineered Garments White Camp Shirt, any of the camp collar shirts from Stüssy (I have a few), plus any of the Resort Shirts by Shades of Grey (I specifically own this one). Honestly, there are so many options, so really take your time, find a pattern/print/material you like and go for it! These are beautiful shirts that you can dress up or down. Up next, literally one of the most beautiful polos I’ve ever seen in my life from Lacoste. I’ve had that thing in my cart for weeks and I finally purchased. It’s gonna get a lot of love in the office — you can bet that. Occasionally, I’ll pull out a crisp white Oxford and I really only run to one brand for that right now — Ledbury.

Pants + Denim

When I wear denim, 90% of the time it’s all black. My favorite pair (in general) comes in the form of the 3301 Straight Tapered denim from G-Star RAW. They’re super comfortable with the perfect amount of stretch, so whether I’m sitting or running around in the office all day, I never feel super constrained. Since I’m a creature of habit, I also have the same exact pair in a lighter blue wash — those have even more stretch. I’ve also sworn by these UNIQLO Smart DRY-EX Stretch Pants for a long time, too.

We can’t forget about the footwear. I’m no stranger to digging into my sneaker collection for trips to the office, BUT I’m very selective in the models I wear. As much as I love my Forces and Jordan 1’s, they don’t touch the office. More than 100 steps in those a day and my ankles feel like raw spaghetti, lol. If I’m feeling a little sporty, my Air Max 1s are always my first choice. No matter the colorway, I think they’re the perfect office sneaker. Button ups, plain tees, polos, hoodies — it doesn’t matter. They just work. When I wanna go a little more classic, I grab my New Balances — mostly 990, 992, 993 and for a little razzle dazzle, the 327s. When I go SUPER minimal, I love my pair of GREATS Indys (I have the navy blue).

There it is. As promised, a full breakdown of what I’m buying and wearing for the office nowadays. You’ve got a wide variety of price points, brands to choose from and more. If you end up copping anything, let me know! I’d love to hear your thoughts and see how you style everything. Keep me posted and stay safe, y’all. A few photos below, too.
