A Proper Staycation at The Line Hotel DC

Whenever I need a slice of relaxation, nothing serves me better than a good old staycation sometimes. Sitting comfortably in a beautiful hotel surrounded by wonderful local art, food, spirits and culture is exactly what the doctor ordered for me this week. That’s how I found myself at The Line DC again. I first found myself here almost exactly a year ago for a birthday trip. I fell in love and vowed to always stay here when I visited DC going forward. The hotel caters to every guest with the best service possible, going above and beyond. It also helps that it’s right in the middle of Adams Morgan — an area filled with local bars, restaurants, takeout spots and more. Join me as I dive further into my staycation, while sharing all the beautiful things I love about this hotel and the surrounding areas.

Before I even got to my room, I was greeted by the staff who is always as kind as can be. The COVID-friendly check-in experience went super smooth. You have minimal contact with the staff and even get to create your own room key, for extra safety. Once I got to the room, it was of course everything I’ve already grown to love plus more. I’m talking plush white bedding, mid-century modern furniture, the best wall mirror for outfit photos, gold-accented bathroom fixtures and more. I got the Monument Corner King room, which has a direct line of sight to the monument — a pretty cool touch during sunrise and sunset. I also appreciated the extra large desk in here, since I was still technically working my 9-5 this week. Really, just a beautiful room.

Pictured above is the main hotel lobby, which also serves as their in-house restaurant, Brothers and Sisters. Brothers and Sisters is very Ametora-themed, which I LOVE. Lots of Japanese style appetizers, entrees and cocktails. My personal favorites? The kani kream korokke, the salmon onigiri and the chicken katsu sandwich (I ordered this three times). Don’t forget about the cocktails, either.

If you take a walk down the surrounding Adams Morgan blocks, you’ll see streets and buildings filled with local shops, restaurants, murals and more. Lost City Books is a staple of mine. Many of the gems in my collection have actually come from here during my DC visits. When it comes to &pizza, ask any DC local about it they’ll vouch — SUPER clutch pizza spot. On this same block, you’ll find two more of my go-to DC spots: Tryst and Donburi.

If you’re a coffee lover, look no further than Tryst. The staff is super friendly and are always down for a quick chat between customers. I recommend the vanilla oatmilk latte! The location is very spacious and COVID-friendly if you decide to drink your coffee seated, but feel free to get it to go as well. Right across the street sits Donburi, some of the coldest Japanese food I’ve ever had. This trip, I copped the Donburi Moriwase — a mixture of shrimp, eel, karaage and salmon over a bed of rice. Even though I couldn’t have finished two bowls, I almost ordered a second one since it was so good.

To finish off my stay, I visited ARTECHOUSE — a super innovative art space that pushes the boundaries of art with the use of technology. Long story short, it’s dope as hell. The current exhibit is Hanami: Beyond the Blooms in collaboration with Yuko Shimizu. They took her handmade ink and paint-based designs and created a whole immersive, digital experience with them. Kaleidoscope walls, drum-powered lights, shapeshifting walls and more. It legit blew my mind. On top of that, the ongoing music is almost like a meditation sound-bath type thing, so it’ll put you in a good space. Tickets are limited to specific time slots daily and they definitely sell out, so check for tickets here and act quick.

All in all, there’s plenty to do while still being safe around the hotel. If you’re looking for a DC staycation, I hope you choose The LINE. Quality service, premium location and currently, they’re running an amazing promotion. With the Stay Local special found here, room rates are starting at $99 (which also includes free self-parking). This was a much needed stay and I hope this post serves as a guide for any of you looking to do the same. Please reach out with any questions and I look forward to hearing about your stay, folks!
