Everlane's ReNew Collection - Outerwear With An Outlook

Anytime I see companies taking a stand for something, I have to applaud them. It doesn’t always seem that common nowadays, but Everlane is definitely trying to change that. Their latest ReNew collection continues that theme.

The ReNew collection is made up of the Fleece Sweatshirt, Fleece Zip, Lightweight Hooded Puffer, Short Parka and Parka — all created from recycled plastic bottles. Three million bottles to be exact! It blew my mind to see what could be made from recycled plastic, and the process is pretty simple. Everlane sorts these plastic bottles, washes them, cuts them down, melts them, then finally cuts & forms them into thread to be used to make the clothing.

I’ve posted the whole collection below, so let’s take a look.

First up, the Fleece Sweatshirt. I’m usually not the biggest fleece guy, but these hit the spot for me — especially the Dark Navy. They run $60 and fun fact, it took 35 plastic bottles to make each sweatshirt — pretty cool.

Next is the Fleece Zip. I NEED THIS IN THE OAT COLOR. I’m sorry, but wow. This fleece is downright gorgeous. Relaxed fit, two huge front pockets and raglan sleeves — can’t beat it. Retail is $80 and these were made with 41 plastic bottles each.

Up next, the Lightweight Hooded Puffer. These look like your standard puffer jacket with a few upgraded features like being fully reversible and the two-way zipper. You can’t lose with the Green/Navy colorway. These are $98 and use 16 renewable plastic bottles in production.

The Short Parka features a removable hood, fleece handwarmer pockets and 100% recycled Primaloft insulation. It stops at the waist and still gives you a pretty clean look if you don’t like the longer length of a traditional parka. This retails for $165 and uses 50 bottles per jacket.

Finally, the Parka — my absolute favorite piece in this collection. It gives you everything the Short Parka gives you, but with the traditional length you’re used to. They’re also water resistant and you can’t be mad at that. The Parka is $198 and uses 60 bottles to make.

The ReNew collection is the first step of many in Everlane’s latest mission - reducing plastic consumption as a whole. By 2021, they’re planning on having no new plastic anywhere in their supply chain — a pretty ambitious, but highly respectable goal. They want everything to be recycled/renewed and I can’t wait to see where this goes.
