10 Essential Items to Improve Your Wardrobe

A Solid White Oxford

The ultimate wardrobe essential and my number one recommended item for anyone. You can do anything with it. Button the sleeves down, tuck it in and dress it up. Roll the sleeves back, pair it with tapered chinos and sneakers. Hell, if you have one that’s light enough, toss it on with shorts too. Options are endless.

Examples: Everlane Japanese Slim Fit Oxford - $58, UNIQLO Slim Fit Oxford - $29

A Heavy Duty Hoodie

This is one key to staying cozy and put together at the same time. Get yourself a hoodie with a little more weight to it rock that comfort confidently.

Examples: J.Crew French Terry Pullover Hoodie - $78, Reigning Champ Core Pullover Hoodie - $145, Everlane 365 Fleece Hoodie - $60

An Everyday Watch

I’m not a man of many accessories, but I keep a watch on my wrist. Even on my most basic days, I end up getting some kind of compliment on my watch. Necessary for a well-rounded wardrobe.

Examples: Timex Weekender 38mm - $37, Orient Bambino Gen. 2 V2 - $113, Seiko SKX007 Diver - $249

A Perfect Plain T-Shirt

No matter your style of dress, you could probably use a nice quality plain t-shirt. Replace the Hanes and get something just a tad bit nicer.

Examples: Buck Mason Pima Classic Tee - $32, Everlane Heavyweight Pocket Tee - $28, UNIQLO Supima Cotton Crewneck - $10

Quality Socks

Even though I’m more of a no-show guy, I had to invest in quality socks. Comfort is key and so is making sure you don’t stink your shoes up.

Examples: UNIQLO No-Show Socks - $3.90, UNIQLO Color Socks - $2.90, Beams Plus Walking & Relaxing Socks - $35, NEED Back Logo Sock - $15.99

Slim Chinos

When it’s time to put the heavier denim up, you can always rely on a good pair of slim chinos. Also super easy to dress up or down, a personal favorite in my wardrobe (especially with a nice taper).

Examples: J.Crew 484 Slim Chino - $68, Everlane Air Chino - $58, Carhartt WIP Sid Pant - $135

Casual, Minimal Sneakers

I’m a big fan of doing more with less and minimal sneakers do just that. You can dress these sneakers up or down, from work to happy hour without a hitch. Add a pair to your collection.

Examples: GREATS Royale Knit - $119, Nike for J.Crew Killshot 2 - $90, Nike Air Tailwind 79 - $90, Common Projects Achilles Low - $411

Quality Denim

With high enough quality denim, all it takes is one good pair in your wardrobe to change everything.

Examples: Everlane Slim Fit Denim - $68, G-Star 3301 Slim Jeans - $130, Norse Projects Norse Slim Denim - $180

A Leather Wallet

No more velcro, ha! A great leather wallet will last you forever. I’ve had my CDG wallet for years on years now, still looks excellent.

Examples: CDG Classic Leather Line SA3100 Wallet - $99, Herschel Supply Co. Oscar Wallet - $40, Fossil Derrick Flip Bifold Wallet - $33

A Lazy Day Cap

Caps are great to have on hand overall, especially if you’re in-between cuts. That’s my go-to. Keep it basic with something all black or have fun with some color. The perfect accessory.

Examples: Everlane Baseball Cap - $22, Carhartt WIP Terrace Flex Cap - $55, Saturdays NYC Russel DWR Cap - $50, Stüssy Basic Stock Camp Cap - $40
